How does Giveway work?

A pool of real naira is shared out among players' bids. Every player gets 100 Kindness Points (KP) to distribute to other people's bids. When voting closes, the algorithm calculates how much each winner receives based on quadratic funding.

Do I need to pay money to enter or win?

No. Entering a bid and voting with your Kindness Points is completely free. Backers can optionally contribute money to increase the pool size, but paying money never buys votes or visibility.

How are winners chosen?

The crowd decides. Scoring uses quadratic funding principles: broad support from many people weighs more heavily than a lot of KP from one person.

How do winners get their payouts?

When a round resolves, winners receive an email with a secure link to claim their award directly into their Nigerian bank account via Milly.

Giveway Technologies (BN 6982870, registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria) runs Giveway. This page explains what personal information we handle and why.

What we collect

Account details: your name and email, and when you joined. If you sign in with Google, the name and email Google shares.
What you do: the rounds you join, bids you write, KP you give, giveaways you host, and notifications we send you.
Payment details: for deposits and contributions, the amount, Paystack reference and your name and email. We never see or store your card number. Paystack handles it.
Bank details for payouts: if you win, the bank, account number and account name you enter. We check the name with the bank before sending money.
Usage data: pages viewed, links clicked in our emails, referral links you used, and basic device and browser information, so we can fix problems and understand what's working.
Support messages: what you send us and your reply address.

What other people see

Bids and results show an alias (for example "A-Comet"), not your name or email. The host's name appears on their giveaway. A contributor's name appears in the backers list unless they chose to be anonymous. Winners' bank details are never shown.

Why we use it

To run your account and the arena, take payments and send payouts, email you about rounds you joined, keep the site fair and secure, answer support requests, and meet legal obligations. We don't sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

Only the services we need to run Giveway:

Paystack: payments and bank account checks.
Our transfer service: sends payouts to winners' bank accounts.
Resend: sends our emails.
Sentry: error reports, so we can fix bugs.
Cloudflare: network and security.
Hosting providers that run our servers and database.

We may also share information when the law requires it, or to protect people from fraud or harm.

Cookies and local storage

We keep your sign-in token and a few preferences (for example a referral code) in your browser's local storage so you stay signed in. We use first-party analytics to count visits and clicks. We don't use third-party advertising trackers.

How long we keep it

We keep account and round records for as long as your account exists and as long as we need them for payments, accounting and disputes. Payout records are kept to meet financial record-keeping needs. You can delete your account from the account page; some records tied to payments and awards may be kept where we're required to.

Your choices

You can view your account details on your account page, ask us to correct them, and delete your account (a confirmation code is emailed to you first). To ask about anything else, including a copy of your data, contact support. If you're in Nigeria, you have rights under the Nigeria Data Protection Act; we'll help you use them.

Security

We use encrypted connections and limit who can access personal data. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your sign-in email safe.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and tell you about significant changes.
